Es kombiniert die Alphabete <a href="Assomtawruli" class="mw-redirect" title="Assomtawruli">Assomtawruli</a> (Mrglowani) für die Großbuchstaben und <a href="Nuschuri" title="Nuschuri">Nuschuri</a> bzw. Nuskhuri für die Kleinbuchstaben. Es wurde ab dem 9. Jahrhundert hauptsächlich für religiöse Texte verwendet und war bis ins 11. Jahrhundert in Gebrauch, wo es durch die Mchedruli-Schrift ersetzt wurde. Die Verwendung im religiösen Bereich währte bis ins 18. Jahrhundert.
</p><p>Erst in jüngster Zeit wird in Georgien wieder religiöse Literatur in Chutsuri gedruckt.
